Good Evening Everyone,

Its been another quiet day today. Again things are getting better kidney and leg wise. I'm spending the night with my dad so we might play a game of scrabble. He has also been up and active today because he slept really well last night. Thanks for your support!

Good Evening Everyone,

There are a few positive things to report today. My dads kidney function is increasing daily and he is slowly being taken off of antibiotics for his leg. For those who don't know, he had a leg infection and with the deficiency of his white blood cells he wasn't able to fight it off. His appetite is still hardy. We had Green Mill pizza and he had two slices of deep dish:) As always, thank you for your love and support.

Good Evening Everyone,

I apologize for the late hour. There isnt much to report today except for the fact that my dad was very tired. The chemo is doing its job and is wiping out his cells (hopefully including his blast cells). The roughest parts are ahead so stay positive. Thanks for your love and care.

Last Day of Chemo Round Two!!!

Good Evening Everyone,

Today is a good day:) My dad is on his last day of chemo and his kidneys are improving daily!! He still has a hearty appetite, eating homemade caramel rolls and requesting many other food items! He still has a lot of fluid in his system because of the saline that went along with the chemo, but besides feeling a bit puffy he is in good spirits! However the next few weeks will be harder on him once the chemo takes effect. If your planning on visiting (which is encouraged) just be aware of the fact that he will be tired and not feeling very well. Thank you for your continued support and love!

Good Evening Everyone,

Today has been a good day for my Dad. He ate a piece of banana cream pie and a chicken sandwich with fries!! Its good to celebrate everything:) The chemotherapy is blue and one of the side effects is that eyes and urine turn blue. He is starting to notice things like that so if you visit try to stay positive. This is only a temporary condition. Please keep the prayers and good thoughts coming as we wait for remission! Thanks for the love:)

Chemotherapy: Round Two

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone,

Warmest wishes on this rather dreary day. We are all here at the hospital enjoying a turkey dinner and some pie today as my dad starts his second round of chemotherapy. He is doing pretty good today, but perhaps a bit nervous. His kidneys are still doing alright but the level of creatine is increasing. This is because of the chemo before this second round. The chemicals in this new round however will not effect his kidneys! Thanks for the love:)

Good Evening Everyone,

Today has been a rather quiet day for my dad. He had an ultra sound done on his kidneys to make sure everything was normal. The results of the ultra sound came back showing that everything is functioning correctly! He has started to regain his appetite, eating a half of a banana, some donut holes, and a few tangerines. No news is good news today:) Thanks for all of the love:)

Room change!!

My Dad is actually in room 4 on the fourth floor. Sorry about that:)

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

Hello everyone,

Today is November 20th. My mom and I decided to start this blog to keep all of the people who care about my Dad informed about his journey. For those of you who aren't familiar with cancer, my dad has Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. This is a cancer found in the blood. He was diagnosed on November 2nd and has been in the hospital since. He has already gone through one round (seven days) of chemotherapy. Today he got the results back from a second bone marrow test. This test showed that his cell count in his bone marrow had been reduced from 90% to 50% (which is good) but the amount of blast cells (cancer cells) didn't decrease. Think of it as salt in boiling water. As the water evaporates the salt remains, which is what is happening with my Dad. He will have to remain at the hospital for another week of chemo and another two weeks for side effects, but hopefully he will go into remission. Remission is the process in which the blast cells decrease to a "safe level." When he gets into remission he is able to get a bone marrow transplant! Thank you for all of your support and love! All we can ask for is a successful recovery. If you would like to write or visit my Dad he is at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. He is on the fourth floor in room ten! We will post all updates on this blog! Feel free to post questions at any time. We will do our best to answer them!
